At ANC, our providers know that great kidney care is about more than labs and prescriptions; it’s about showing up for people consistently and compassionately. We sat down with Amy Sibley, NP, to talk about what makes a great nephrology provider and why she chose this path.
Amy’s journey began in the ICU, but it was her mother — who ran a transplant clinic — that ignited her passion for kidney care. “She’d come home with these incredible stories,” Amy recalls. “Over time, I saw how fascinating and impactful kidney care could be, especially in transplant and dialysis. From there, continuing in this field just felt right.”
The (not so) Secret Formula: Knowledge & Compassion = Trust
According to Amy, great nephrology providers are part clinician, part detective. “Kidney care isn’t one-size-fits-all,” she explains. “There’s a multitude of questions and comorbidities we deal with. You have to take all of that and tailor a plan that works for each individual.”
But what matters most? Trust. “You build it by being real with people. I make sure patients know they’re not just a number. I give them the information they need and invite them to help steer the ship. They’re the decision-makers in their care.”
Amy also emphasizes taking time to slow down and educate. “Transparency is everything. You can have all the data in the world, but if the patient doesn’t understand it, it’s not meaningful.”
What Sets Kidney Care at ANC Apart
From her very first day, Amy felt ANC’s collaborative, people-first culture. “The team is generous with their knowledge, and that carries over into how we treat patients – there’s a real respect here.”
ANC also prioritizes access and advocacy. Whether it’s our partnerships with transplant centers, tools like Kidney Smart, or events like the NKF Kidney Walk, “we want our patients to feel supported, informed, and empowered.”
A Final Word to Those Looking to Enter the Field
“If you want to work in a field where you really get to know your patients—and grow alongside them—nephrology is it,” Amy says. “And at ANC, you’re never just a chart. You’re a partner in the process.”
